I'm always so excited at the start of our fundraisers. We've got a bunch of new prizes and every year, we get new fans involved in a good cause. And we've raised such a good amount of money already (over $50,000 in just two years!) that we have the confidence that we can do it again.
Like any good fundraiser, I do worry about making sure I say the right thing. I wonder, "Will we keep inspiring folks who have been so generous in the past to help again?" And, "Will we attract new fans to the cause?" But those thoughts only last for a moment. Because this fandom is nothing short of remarkable.
What makes me particularly happy about this year's endeavor is that many fans came to us to ask when we'd start fundraising for A Dog's Life Rescue again before we had even decided what we were doing this year. This fandom has such massive hearts that never stop giving simply because we are nice people.
Heather and I both are so drawn to helping animals because we feel that the weaker members of society are so often forgotten and truly, if we are not their voice, who is? The overwhelming response of our fan survey was that we must help animals again. And thank goodness, because we truly did not want to turn our backs on A Dog's Life Rescue.
The volunteers of A Dog's Life Rescue do so much with every dollar donated. A little bit of money goes a long way, primarily because no one on staff is paid, but also because they have such good relationships with their community. They can get supplies, vaccinations and even spay/neuter procedures at a very reduced rate.
So just like last year, we're hoping folks will contribute a little bit every month. This way, if you donate $10 each month, you have 10 chances to win a really generous prize pack. And over 10 months, you'll have donated $100. Think of it this way: $100 is like buying ONE photo op at a Supernatural convention. But in the animal rescue world, $100 will save FIVE animals by providing life-saving immunizations that protect those animals against deadly diseases.
And with our $30,000 goal, we just need 300 fans to commit to donating $10 each month and we'll have met our goal! Supernatural has millions of viewers each week. We're just looking for a tiny fraction of that audience - the segment of the audience who loves animals and wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves - to help us reach our goal. We did it last year and we know it can be done again.
We have been particularly touched over the last two years of fundraising for A Dog's Life Rescue by how many Supernatural fans donate because they feel the same way as us about animals. Sure, it's nice to donate to a charity Jared loves, but it's also a tribute to the animals that have made an impact on our lives. The stories we have received from fellow fans over the past two years about animals that have a special place in their hearts were incredibly uplifting to read.
For me, it's in honor of Tiffany, Sarah, Pebbles and Lexi.
For Heather, I know it's in honor of her beloved Callie who recently passed.
Thank you again to everyone who has helped us do so much for A Dog's Life Rescue so far. The co-founders of A Dog's Life Rescue told us Supernatural fans kept them afloat last year. And we can do it again this year! Thank you in advance to all who will help.
Heather and I want to point out that there are other ways to help than a straight donation. We really want to highlight you guys and your ideas more than ever this year. If you have a great idea for a personal fundraiser to help A Dog's Life Rescue, send us the details and we will help you promote it. You raise the money in your own way and then donate it on our fundraising site. We want you to have as much fun as us and we want you to help us raise money in the most comfortable way for you personally.

-Have a bake sale,
-Sell candles or pizza or any of the countless other items available for fundraisers,
-Have a rummage or garage sale,

-Win one of our eBay auctions for charity,
-Plan a fan event,
-Create homemade Supernatural items that we can auction off on eBay, or
-Come up with something we have not even dreamed of!
