Maryline's Rescue story
Hey girls,
I've never had pets because at almost 26 years old I'm still living with my parents and they never wanted any. My sister, 22, and I always wanted a dog or cat or even both.
This summer (end of May) one cat came in the garden/yard looking lost and started crying. And I really mean crying like a baby, I had never heard that before. I didn't know what to do, I felt lost myself. I was in front of that poor thing, so beautiful and adorable. I came closer and started petting her and she would let me. She had that sad look in her eyes. I went to get her some food and saw how she would jump on it like she hadn't eaten in days! It broke my heart! It was horrible She stayed near me for hours then she left before coming back a bit later. The next day, same thing, she came over again and cried. Again, I petted her and gave her food. She started coming a lot and even sleeping in the trees around my house so she would never leave. Then, another cat came crying, again I did the same thing as with the first one. Since then, they never leave the house. They stay on the patio or in the garden or (beneath) trees about 24/7. You can say we adopted them. It's 2 females. We didn't know how to name them so we just gave them nicknames between us. The "old one" (the white one with colors) and the "young one" (black & white).
Every morning the old one's at the kitchen window waiting for me to open so she can come in the kitchen. Once inside I can see how happy she is. I pet her and give food (of course I bought cat food) and she stays for hours and sleeps there around the table on a chair (she likes that) with me near her. Then she goes outside some and still stays on the patio or at the window, she even sleeps there and she plays in the garden.
The young one comes a bit later and again I pet and feed and play with her (she plays more than the old one). I was amazed to see that cats can eat up to 12 times a day!
In the evening after the last time I go near them I put some food outside to make sure they have something to eat at night. And they always have fresh water and everything. I do know what to do and how to care about them.
The only thing is, they aren't allowed inside the house at night but it doesn't seem to bother them as they still stay near the house and sleep here beneath trees or I also got them some kind of cat pillows to sleep on/in so they are comfy outside on a balcony under a roof so they're also protected from the rain.
And as you saw on a picture in the summer they even had a chair with a blanket outside to lay in the sun with us, just like humans, so they could rest and be comfy just near us.
The good thing about being two of them is that they also play together. It's funny to watch. They run after each other and fight for fun (not to harm themselves) and jump on trees and just put on a show then they rest on the patio near each other. One day another cat came around and started attacking the young one. I tried to get the new cat to leave but couldn't. The older cat came out of the trees on the other side of the house to protect the young cat. It was amazing, they really care about each other and protect each other. They're friends now, it's like we're all a family.
Bottom line now they aren't lost anymore as they have us and I love them with all my heart. I like getting up in the morning knowing that they're waiting for me and I also feel the love they have for me. We play all together as friends in a way and it's funny and feels childish and it feels good. They do play hide & seek. You wouldn't believe it but it's true. I run after them and they hide in the trees then come out of nowhere running after me to scare me.
They really seem happy now :)
That's for the story. I thought of you when I adopted those two a few months ago. I know I did something good. If someone had taken them to some shelter here they would have been killed. That's what they do here because they have too many kittens, cats, dogs... I just couldn't let that happen to those two! Nobody will harm them now that I'm here!
